Working with Break Types
Break Types in virtualbreak
virtualbreak allows you to create countdown screens for different occasions - such as regular breaks, lab or exercise time, and event countdowns. You can set a custom background picture and icon, and assign a default duration.
Managing Break Types
The main Break Type Settings screen will let you edit, delete or create break types. If you have a long list of break types, you can also use the search bar on top of the screen to quickly access the one you want to edit. Just enter a part of the break type name and the list will be filtered accordingly.
Creating a New Break Type
To create a new break type, just go to the Break Type Settings screen, and click the New Break Type button. The Edit Break Type screen will appear.
You can now enter the following parameters:
- Display Name: This name will be displayed on the Start Break screen and on the countdown screens. Examples: "Coffee Break", "Event Countdown", "Exercise Time" etc.
- Icon: Choose from a variety of different icons.
- Background Image: Choose from different background images that will be shown on the countdown screen. Please note: It is currently not possible to upload your own background image, this feature may be added in the future.
- Default Break Duration: This duration (in minutes) will used when the countdown end time is initially calculated on the Start Break screen after selecting the break type. Of course, you can always manually override the end time before actually starting the break or countdown.
- Category: You can select one of three categories: Break, Lab Time, Event Countdown, or End of Class. Your choice will affect the wording on the countdown screens. For example, for a break the countdown timer description will read "24:10 minutes until break ends", but for a event countdown it will say "24:10 minutes until event starts".
Editing an Existing Break Type
Editing an existing break type works exactly like creating a new one, just go to the Break Type Settings screen, choose the Edit (pen) icon next to the break type entry and make your adjustments.
Deleting an Existing Break Type
You can also delete existing break types by clicking on the Delete (thrash can) icon next to the break type entry on the Break Type Settings screen. Please note that you always have to keep at least one break type - if there is only one break type left in the list the Delete icon will be disabled.
